For most of us, when we think losing weight, we think jumping on a treadmill, running a couple miles, ditch eating hamburgers for a week, and you will have a perfect body. However, sadly enough, it is not that easy as generally it requires not just a quick fix, but an overall lifestyle change.
It is important to identify what kinds of things your lifestyle includes, that is, what a typical day, or typical week for your consists of. Understand how your time is spent and what kinds of activities you engage in on a daily basis.
For example, consider how much time you spend sitting at a desk, sitting in a car, sitting in front of a TV or computer, eating out at restaurants, drinking alcohol, eating fast foods or junk foods, and staying up late or not getting enough sleep. These are some of the factors that produce a sedentary lifestyle.
On the other hand, also consider how much time you spend being active, doing cardio exercise, strength training all muscle groups, preparing your own healthy meals, reading food labels, tracking your calories, sleeping, and dealing with stress in a healthy way. These are a few of the “good” things.
Take some time to consider what you are doing, and what you can do to improve. A little self-introspection can lead to some very inspiring and surprising results.
Remember as well that part of developing a healthy lifestyle is not purely physical, but includes factors such as what time your get up and go to bed each day, how you spend your free time, how your spend your money, how much television you watch, and what you do with your family and friends.
Changing these things to times and activities that are healthier can produce not only a better functioning body, but a more focused and alert mind. And of course, the long-term benefit of being around a lot longer for your family is a pretty big incentive to develop a healthy lifestyle. So get of your couch and get on your treadmill, it will be worth it.
